Unity in the body of Christ

My name is Margie Schroeder. I am one of 9 team members going on this designated trip with Healing Haiti. I have known Jeff and Alyn, founders of Healing Haiti, for many years as Alyn was my neighbor growing up. We crossed paths a few years back and Alyn shared how Christ was working through both her and Jeff by a recent trip they had taken down to Haiti.

Fast forward 5 years, and through our relationship and establishing also a relationship with Crosswalk and Healing Haiti, our first "St. Michael's" team will be heading down the end of September. I can't wait! The Crosswalk students at St. Michael's have been praying and contributing their offerings, and following the children of the orphanages Healing Haiti supports for the past three years. Now a team of adults will go down as "ambassadors" to meet many of these children and adults whom we've been praying and donating supplies and money towards. We are excited to see "Grace Village", a dream that is coming to a reality for these orphans, and a feeding center will be included for the community as well. If you want to see more of what we will be doing not only at the orphanage and school but at other locations on our week long trip, take a look at the website at www.healinghaiti.org and highlight the mission trips link.

The team that I will be travelling with has met three times this summer to get to know one another and to start preparing both our hearts and minds for this trip. We know God has a plan for each one of us and we are gaining a better understanding of how we need to rely on God more fully not only preparing for this journey, but always. I have been reflecting on the unity that has been established already since our group first met. As the first meeting consisted of introductions and friendly dialogue, we have the following weeks become more transparent and open to our hopes, fears, dreams, stumbles and growth in our faith walk. I am humbled and honored that God has called me to this privilege of not only going down to Haiti, but also to travel down with this amazing group of people. We spend time in prayer and God's Word, and also have had the opportunity to work through a short-term missions workbook that Sue Timmerman has helped facilitate our discussions (thanks for keeping us on track, Sue!). The body of Christ and all that we can offer through the gifts He has given to us brings to mind a verse in Ephesians..."From Him the whole body, joined and held together by every supporting ligament, grows and builds itself up in love, as each part does its work" (Eph. 4:16). Let all of us continue to be unified through our "walk" in the body of Christ.
